A paper I wrote on Adultery...

“You shall not commit adultery”  Throughout the ages many societies with different religions have had lots of views on the subject.  It would seem that every culture has a different idea of what adultery is, it’s significance, and what the consequences of it is.  Well, the goal of this essay is to; describe adultery, tell you what the bible says about it, and shows how it affects everyday life.
First of all, marriage.  Marriage is when two people vow to love one another and be devoted to each other.  The vow they make is a life-long commitment that is intended to be kept “‘til death do us part.” Well, over time one or more of the spouses may become ungrateful for their relationship with their current spouse.  They begin to covet other people.  It may be subtle at first but, eventually, if left unchecked, it will become more than a desire.  Scripture says, “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”  They won’t just covet  someone else, they will look for opportunities to be with someone else.  Eventually, this could lead to a “friendship” with someone else.  The friendship itself may  not be  harmful.  What is harmful is the moment they enter a form of relationship that is only intended for husband and wife and that is when it becomes adultery.
There are plenty of Scripture verses that specifically talk about adultery.  It is a subject that God speaks to on numerous occasions.  In Exodus 20:14 and Deuteronomy 5:18 he makes it abundantly clear that under no circumstance is it acceptable to be unfaithful to your spouse.  God is so opposed to adultery that it is actually the only time  he allows a couple to be divorced.  The thing is God is grieved when someone breaks their commitment to their spouse.
The spouse that does commit adultery finds it harder and harder to enjoy, much less love, the spouse they have.  If they have covered up the fact that they were unfaithful than they won’t be able to communicate with their spouse on an intimate level.  The reason being, is that they are holding part of their life back.  In addition to this, once someone discovers that their spouse has committed adultery, they will find it hard to trust them.  If they can’t trust their spouse to be faithful to them, what can they trust their spouse with?  The spouse feels cheated or like they have been faithful for nothing.  They might think, “What is the point of being faithful if my spouse isn’t even showing me the same respect?”
So in the end, why would you do that to your family and yourself?  What do you gain?  Is the momentary pleasure worth it?  The bible says that whoever is unfaithful lacks judgement. “...[A] man who commits adultery lacks judgment; whoever does so destroys himself.”
He is a fool in Gods eyes.  First you commit to be with your spouse forever and then you go and enter a relationship that was only intended to be between you and your spouse.  When you desire someone else because you think that they can give you something that you spouse can’t, whether it be attention or pleasure, you want it and your commitment to your spouse isn’t as important.  In conclusion this is an exhortation from scripture.  “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

"Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord." -- Zechariah 3:1

"Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord."
             -- Zechariah 3:1

Joshua stood before the angel of the Lord. Joshua was able to stand before him because he was the high priest. As the high priest, he was made holy by God. Without God to make him holy and clean he would perish when he entered the temple. Isn’t that amazing? The fact that if he was not purified by the blood of an animal, in a sacrifice that God set in place, he would be killed when he tried to approach the holy and just God. How much more amazing is the fact that we can now draw near to him. Not in the fearful way a slave would draw near to a powerful but temperamental master.  No, not even like a student to a very kind professor. No, we draw near as his children! His children, how amazing is it that we can approach a father that enjoys our presence. He enjoyed our presence even  in the beginning when he created Adam from dust. He did not just create him to rule over all the animals and leave him to his work . He talked with Adam, he walked with him, and he even created a partner for Adam so that man would not be lonely. But, the moment we ate from the forbidden fruit we were filled with sin. God cannot bear sin. Since we had sin in us we could not be in the presence of God.. That is why God could not be in the presence of an unpurified priest. Because the holiness of God would literally kill all sin and evil in its presence. So, why couldn’t the people enter into the proximity of God before, but now we can go and talk to him any time we want? Christ! He did it all. When he came to earth and lived a perfect life and died on a cross for us. Christ died for our sins. When he died he became the required sacrifice the God set in place in the old testament. Now, we are the priests that can enter his presence. We are purified! We have have the cleansing blood of his sacrifice covering us. All we need to do is ask him for his grace. For the gift that is already promised. We have to humble ourselves and admit that we are not holy. We cannot stand before him on our own feet. We need him to support us. So in the end Charles Spurgeon said it the best. “He is content and I am blessed. See, then, the position of the Christian-"a priest- standing-before the angel of the Lord."

Sean Taylor

Well you have all heard it Sean Taylor died yesterday at 5 am. Cause of death was to much loss of blood due to a gunshot wound in the leg. As tragic as this is it raises a question...why do we care so much. Now don't get me wrong Mr. Taylor had friends and family that cared for him very much. But, the question is why do we put so much stock into a dead celebrity. Is it because we value sports too much? Or just the people in power? What I mean is just about everybody is talking about his death and how tragic it was. but, how about the grand mother that was out shopping for thanksgiving dinner. While she was out on the freeway a rock fell off of a truck in front of her hit and shattered her wind shield. She consequently crashed and was killed. Now, in hindsight both deaths are tragic and sudden. But how many people have heard the news talking about that grand mother? I am not saying that I necessarily agree with the fact that we shouldn't pay attention when a celebrity dies. In fact it's probably appropriate we as humans grieve when someone we feel an attachment to passes away. When you have a celebrity or someone that is famous you feel that connection. You know who they are you know about them. You (as in this case with Sean Taylor) see them every Sunday. You do feel like you know them. So is it that we are grieving someone that we feel like we knew or is it that we are just grieving him cause he was a good football player and we liked him. hence not actually genuinely sad but just mad that someone had the audacity to shoot the "football god?"

Thanksgiving...the NY way

So I went to NY for thanksgiving thats where my mom and I are from (true I was born in Maryland but I still consider myself from there). And it was well...interesting. While we were there we:

1. Stopped a crime in progress.

2.Commited a couple of driving crimes ourselves...as in speeding and driving over sidewalks and stuff.

3. Played a game of street soccer with a group of mexicans.

4. I drove in downtown brooklyn.

5. and a couple other things that i can't remember right now.

As far as the crime in progress. My aunt just recently became A PO (parole officer). Now what that means is she is legally law enforcement. So she is like half a cop like in an emergancy she can arrest somebody, she carries a gun, has a badge, and has her own set of hand cuffs. So we were going for a walk at about...midnight. SAo we see this girl and this guy are in a fight so, what did we do. What every good american would do...we crossed the street and kept walking. Well we got about a block and a half away and we hear a scream "help stop!!" "someone call the cops!!!!" So of course we had to go back and when we got back there was this dude holding this girl by the neck so my aunt comes up, pulls out her badge, and yells "sir im law enforcement please take your hands off her." the guy then put his hands up but was still talking to the girl trying to convince her to go with him. Legally if she goes with him then my aunt can't get involved. (It didn't help that my grand father had convinced my aunt to leave her gun and cuffs at the house. So my aunt only had her badge and a very commanding voice). So my aunt realizing that this guy wasn't responding to her started talking to the girl. She asked her if she was okay and if this guy had put his hands on her and she wanted protection. The girl nodded her head yes and went and hid behind my aunt. So the guy just started to walk away my as i said before my aunt did not have her gun or cuffs so she just got a description of what he looke dlike and strated to escort the lady . She called in back up So the cops showed up and took care of the rest. So it was interesting.

As far as all the laws we broke most of them we could get away with because of my aunts position. none were that big of a deal the worst thing we did was we were getting on to the high way and the sideroad was really backed up. The only thing that was blocking us from getting on to the high way was a little island s what did my aunt do...she went over it and we got on to the highway.

Well the game was fun I was the only one that spoke english there but it was fun I had two goals and three assists so it was a pretty good day for me. thankfully I knew enough spanish that I could play and iteract during the game.
I haven't been to NY since I got my licence so this was my first chance to drive there. It wasn't bad at all. I always thought it would be crazy but after driving in the rain in downtown brooklyn in a big SUV I realized it wasn't that bad. Actually it was pretty easy.

So those were some of the highlights of my thanks giving... How about you.
